EMAG Machinery China
Located in Jintan, Jiangsu Province, the EMAG Machinery China facility represents the company’s flagship industrial complex in the region. Covering a total area of 48,000 m², the project was developed between 2011 and 2013 to embody the highest German construction standards in an international setting. Designed to be one of the most efficient industrial buildings in China, the project integrates advanced architecture, interior design, and project management into a unified vision. The project was developed in collaboration with EGS Plan International.
The Concept
The architectural concept revolves around efficiency, precision, and visibility. The main office block is designed in a “T” shape, extending over a mezzanine level that overlooks the entire production area. This spatial configuration not only enhances management’s direct connection to the manufacturing process but also reinforces transparency and operational control. The design reflects EMAG’s commitment to innovation and quality by blending industrial functionality with architectural clarity.
The Project
Sustainability and Climate Analysis
Sustainability was a driving force throughout the project. All building components were carefully selected to reduce energy consumption while ensuring maximum performance. A fully insulated cassette wall system forms the building shell, offering exceptional thermal protection and minimizing energy loss. Additionally, the facility integrates a Building Management System (BMS), which allows the entire structure to be monitored and controlled remotely from Germany. This advanced technological integration ensures operational efficiency, environmental responsibility, and long-term durability
Interior Design and Comfort
The interior design was conceived to combine functionality with human comfort. The mezzanine offices provide bright, open workspaces with direct views of the production halls, reinforcing the relationship between staff and the manufacturing process. Particular attention was given to climatic comfort: the production building maintains an extremely stable environment, with a temperature fluctuation limited to ±2°C within 24 hours and strict humidity control. This not only ensures optimal working conditions but also guarantees precision and reliability in manufacturing processes.
The Spaces and the Entrance Hall
The entrance hall acts as both a reception area and a representational space, embodying EMAG’s corporate identity and values. From this central point, circulation flows seamlessly into the various functional zones of the building. The spatial organization emphasizes clarity and accessibility, allowing employees and visitors to navigate intuitively through the complex.
The Roof and the “Suspended Sheet”
The roof design contributes both to the building’s performance and to its architectural expression. Serving as a protective layer, it also accommodates technical systems that support environmental regulation. A key architectural element, referred to as the “suspended sheet,” defines the building’s visual character while contributing to shading and climate control. This gesture enhances both the aesthetic and bioclimatic qualities of the project.
